There was a time in my life
When I thought the best that I could hope for
Was a hot shower in the morning
A quiet day in the workplace
A wholesome lunch
A drive home without the stress of a traffic jam
A healthy, fulfilling dinner
And a dreamless sleep.
Instead, you came
And punctuated my days.
Now when I awake
I couldn’t care less if the shower didn’t work
I’ll take on the heaviest workload
I’m too dizzy to eat lunch
I take on traffic jams and think of other things
I want to cook the most sumptuous, bad-for-me foods
And I don’t want to sleep.
Isn’t it funny
How things work out?
